A Trust to arrange and administer holidays
at the Unitarian Holiday Centre, Great Hucklow,
for needy and deprived children 'having no
regard to religious, political, racial and
other considerations'.
Registered as a Charity - number 271585
Thanks to your continued generous support the fund gave holidays in 1996 to ten groups of children at Great Hucklow, in the beautiful Derbyshire country-side. We were able to give holidays to eleven groups of children, our highest ever. The holidays were for children from Newpin, London (two groups from different areas at different times), two different groups from Liverpool, a new group from Bolton, and the 'regulars' from the Isle of Wight, Stourbridge, Nottingham, Hemel Hempstead and Rochdale.
In addition, once again we paid for a group of children in Northern Ireland to have an adventure holiday.
Will you please help us to give holidays for thirteen groups in 1997? We would like to give holidays once again to the groups mentioned above, and in addition to another Liverpool group and to a school for children with special needs from Towcester.
We are delighted to announce that we exceeded our target for 1995-96, with donations amounting to £8,342. Interest and dividends provided a further £8,005.86. In Memoriam gifts totalled £391.71 and legacies of £1,500 were also received during the year.
As a result of a letter written to the Guardian newspaper by Rev. Peter Godfrey supporting holidays for children in a Berkshire Village, a reader has very generously taken out a four-year covenant for £500.
£250 had been received from Elder Yard Unitarian Chapel, Chesterfield, which was the result of collections taken at weddings during the past year.
A raffle at the General Assembly Meetings at Glasgow raised £350.
The Trustees of the Fund would like to express their sincere thanks to all who contributed so very generously.
We have made two unsuccessful appeals for help to the lottery. A third appeal is currently being considered.
At the annual trustees' meeting in October, 1996, it was unanimously agreed that the target for 1996-97 should be £18,000 - please help us to achieve this. It is good to report that we reached our target for our 1995-96 appeal.
In a normal year most of the Fund's income comes from many individuals and from church and chapel collections. However, each year there are gifts from funds and charities and these deserve to be mentioned. In 1995-6 such gifts came from:
Your gifts for the 1997 holidays will be as deeply appreciated and as valuable as ever. Again, many thanks for your generous support in 1995-6 - please continue it in 1996-7.
Please help us to send more children for a country holiday
Gifts over a four year period may be covenanted, or be made through the 'Give as you earn' scheme or Gift Aid. Companies may also covenant. Please ask Mr David Ogden for details.
All gifts are used for the holidays, except for gifts in memory of someone which are put in a Capital Account and the interest is used for holidays. The Fund's very low running costs are paid from interest from a special fund.
