Charity Number 39014
We believe in civil and religious liberty the world over. We are a church which
supports the principles of freedom, progress and tolerance and which aspires through
worship, enquiry and service to make its work relevant to life. We seek to realise in the
life of the individual and of the community the love and brotherhood which are the essence
of the teaching of Jesus, and we acknowledge what appears to be good and true in other
religions and in the whole of life. We recognise the right of every individual to seek and
hold personal beliefs. We have no doctrine which every member must accept, but ask those
who choose to belong to this church that they share, in general, these aims and
principles. |
Sunday Services
The minister is also available most Tuesday evenings between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm to
arrange weddings and baptisms, or to meet anyone wishing to speak to a minister in
confidence.
Our Central Meeting Place
The Women's League continues to be an active part of church life. Our hall is regularly
made use of by many local people and groups -- such as Barnardos, yoga, drama and writer's
groups to name but a few. A dance group also uses the hall for rehearsals.
Brownies
Our Brownie Pack meets each Friday evening between 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm and is for all
girls from 7 to 10 years of age.
Meeting the Needs of All -
Irrespective of Status or Money
The church was founded in 1785 and now carries in its title the name of our longest
serving minister, who held the post from 1860-1925. He is also credited with founding the
first successful trade union for the mill girls.
Reverend Robert Wightman
Currently Rev Robert Wightman is Religious Advisor to Radio Tay, producing and presenting the
station's religious programme, "This Is The Day", as well as the daily
"Just A Minute" spot.
