Octagon Unitarian Chapel,
Norwich

Our vision is to realise a ministry of all believers in a spiritual dimension of life and to develop people's awareness. We wish to grow together as a community.

Services

We meet for worship every Sunday at 11 am.

Activities

Our congregation has a thriving women's group and an active men's group. Our social responsibility project is the Octagon Playgroup which provides playgroup places for children whose parents otherwise would not be able to afford it. We host the Octagon Concert Series which donates its proceeds to charity. Besides our regular social hour after service we try to meet once a quarter for a pot-luck lunch, often inviting members of our sister church in Yarmouth.

Children

Children are always welcome at the Octagon. Every second Sunday of the month, children are asked to take part in the service and a junior church is held.

History

The congregation dates back to the Act of Uniformity in 1662, when the vicar of St Stephen's and many of his congregation left the Church of England to found a creedless and more democratic church. The present building was completed in 1756 when the group prospered and wished for an elegant and modern meeting house in which to pursue free religious worship. Members of the congregation have always been active socially and politically in the city and count several mayors among their past members.
